USOS
El Present Continuous es un tiempo verbal que se utiliza para hablar de:
- Acciones que hacemos o que están ocurriendo en este mismo instante.
He is reading the newspaper at the moment. En este momento está leyendo el periódico.
The children are playing football now. Los niños están jugando a fútbol ahora.
Look! Kate is dancing with Peter. Mira! Kate está bailando con Peter.
- Acciones que hacemos o que ocurren durante un periodo de tiempo.
I am staying at my parents house for two weeks. Estaré en casa de mis padres dos semanas.
She is writing a new novel, it will take her a year to finish it. Está escribiendo otra novela, tardará un año en terminarla.
I am taking this pills for two months. Tomaré esta medicación durante dos meses.
- Planes de futuro ya acordados y apuntados en la agenda.
We are going on a school trip on the 25th of April. Nos iremos de viaje escolar el 25 de abril.
I am flying to New York next Monday. El próximo lunes me voy a Nueva York.
I am having my hair cut today at 7 p.m. Hoy a las 7 iré a que me corten el pelo.
ESTRUCTURA
Para construir el Present Continuous necesitamos que el verbo TO BE actúe como auxiliar. No aporta ningún significado a la frase. El verbo con significado es el que está en gerundio, es decir, el que lleva la terminación -ing.
Oraciones afirmativas
Subject + [TO BE (am / is / are) + Verb -ing] + Complements.
Ejemplos:
I am speaking on the phone right now.
She is surfing the Internet at the moment.
The neighbours are fighting again just now.
Oraciones negativas
Subject + [TO BE (am / is / are + NOT) + Verb -ing] + Complements.
El verbo TO BE actúa como auxiliar y por lo tanto carga con la negación.
Ejemplos:
I am not speaking on the phone right now.
She isn't surfing the Internet at the moment.
The neighbours aren't fighting again just now.
Oraciones interrogativas
TO BE (am / is / are) + Subject + Verb -ing+ Complements?
El verbo TO BE actúa como auxiliar y se coloca delante del sujeto.
Ejemplos:
Are you speaking on the phone right now?
Is she surfing the Internet at the moment?
Are the neighbours fighting again just now?
